**Independent Filmmakers Bootcamp!**

creating independent masterpieces !

based on the Big Island of Hawaii!

schedule varies depending upon Cristina's availability!

Imagine this:

writing scripts, acting, directing, being creative with lighting & sound, shooting, creating original music, sets & props, editing, producing, and promoting a variety of projects... learning...sharing skills & tools...birthing finished "product" into the world... building a portfolio of produced work...all while enjoying the magic that Pele's home island has to offer, for as many or as few months as you can!

Shark Production's Independent Filmmaker's Bootcamp includes immersion in the above in month-long chunks, when author/ex-New York editor/independent filmmaker Cristina "Shark" Salat is on island and able to offer it!

Rachel & Helen creating light stand for DRAGON project

First test screening & celebratory dinner for the completion of DRAGON!

Sarah, Mistress of Sound

Cristina directing

Connie, Mistress of Lights

Special effects in-progress, combining Shana as "Princess" and the Dragon

Helen creating soundtrack

Cristina on location in Hawaii

Rachel creating dragon flames

Bootcamp host locations vary and filming occurs island-wide to make use of the island's dramatic locations: black, white & green-sand beaches, molten lava beds & smoking craters, Planet-of-The-Ape-type jungles, and snow-covered mountain peaks.

Bootcampers and Cristina have been creating a variety of "shorts" from script through to film festival/theater/web submission. As a solid, compatible core of committed filmmakers forms, we may eventually birth independent feature films as well.

In order to minimize scheduling conflicts, bootcampers are welcome to jump on board whenever their calendars allow by applying to reserve 4 week-long chunks of bootcamp experience which do not have to coincide with the beginning of a month. We generally enjoy an ever-evolving schedule and rotation of filmmakers; at any given time there may be two or twelve working on our various projects underway!

***

Bootcampers are welcome to join us with or without accomodations at Kulana Artist Sanctuary, as available. PLEASE NOTE: All who spend time at Kulana: Cristina Salat's home for artists agree to be 100% personally responsible for their own safety and the safety of their belongings.

A Locations Deposit accompanies bootcamp fees and application. This deposit is fully refundable as long as equipment is returned unscathed and all obligations are met.

***

Emerging & established filmmakers welcome for one month or many!

Experience a plus, but not as important as enthusiastic stick-to-it-iveness!

Longer-term bootcampers in good standing elibible for work on paying film projects as well!

A word about our vision: Shark Productions and its director, Cristina Salat, are more interested in developing/completing heartfelt projects than in believing you can't start something until you have the right make & model of everything a filmmaker could ever want. As "no-budget" filmmakers, we believe that true artists make magic whenever, wherever, however they can. (Picasso could most likely have done amazing things with any tool he had on hand...check out what 3D-artist Julian Beever does with chalk below!)

Thus those who most enjoy the process of bootcamping are individuals who thrive on transforming "problems" into solutions with a lot of laughs and collaboration along the way.

We enjoy working with both our state-of-the-art equipment as well as everything that's been donated to us or scavenged over the years...and most especially with all that we have and are building with our penchant for creative problem solving!

Here's what some previous Shark Production participants have had to say:

"Thank you for the opportunity to assist your company for the past five months. I appreciate your honesty and professionalism. I was pleased to have the chance to work on the script." Kyra Anderson

"Creating the audio environment...was really great. I like the casual atmosphere a lot. The direction was effective...a valuable experience to practice my role in a work group. Real life experience is great for clarifying likes and dislikes. I liked the artistic aspects the best and the clerical tasks the least." Sarah Klebanoff

"Learning to fund projects was most beneficial to me...Enjoyable!" Connie Payne
